A Conversation with Glenn Chin of Niantic

Question #1 - How did you get into basketball and what made you want to help design a game about it?

My experience in basketball goes back 30 years. Right out of college, I worked with the San Jose Jammers of the old-school CBA. Then I was really, really fortunate enough to work at Electronic Arts for 13 years, being part of that founding brand team that brought EA sports to the world. Basketball's been my passion so I worked and founded all the basketball titles; NBA Live, NBA Street Vol. 1, 2, 3, and more. Being able to express my passion for basketball through video games has been incredible.

Question #2 - What makes NBA All-World special?

I think with video games, you start to bring people together, and so to bring people together who love basketball is our main goal here. When we talk about authenticity and lifestyle, I think it's really important to not just take from the culture, but be additive to the culture.

Question #3 - What allowed for the creation of NBA All-World to come together?

The secret sauce that makes the NBA All-World team is like a real sports team -- communication, respect for people, having different disciplines and skilsets. Like any team, there is an identity and we're kind of hard-charging and like to come with a lot of grit.
